Bottles, buckets and nipples should first be rinsed in warm water to remove residue milk, then washed using soap and hot water (80°C). If you wash them immediately with hot water, the milk proteins become “cooked” on to the equipment and provide an ideal environment for bacterial growth.
The bottles, buckets and nipples should then be rinsed with a 10% bleach solution. Remember to remake the bleach solution frequently because the effectiveness decreases over time. After cleaning, let the equipment dry before the next use.
All bottles and buckets with cuts, grooves or scratches on the inside should be discarded. That is an ideal place for bacteria to grow.
