Freezing colostrum

colostrum freezing

It is recommended that colostrum be frozen in two–litre double–bagged freezer bags or two litre plastic containers. Laying the bags on a flat surface in the freezer – like a cookie sheet for example – speeds up the freezing process. Colostrum can be frozen for up to one year.

Each bag or container should be labeled with the date and cow that gave the colostrum.

Freezer temperature should be –20°C. Frost–free freezers are not recommended for long term storage because of the freeze-thaw cycles.
